Paul Van Slooten, MSW, LICSW Thank you for coming to our practice. I am a clinical social worker with 30 years of post graduate experience. I have specialized in couple, family, and adolescent/pre-adolescent populations, utilizing family systems, insight oriented therapies, and solution focused behavior therapy. I believe that regardless of ones orientation, that therapy at its core, is understanding the feelings, thoughts, and beliefs of the people we try to help. Then our mutual task is to move forward to change behaviors, eliminate impediments to growth, or discover and uncover strengths that all people possess. I look foward to meeting with you. |

Sheila Gardner, PhD Licensed Psychologist
The stressors of life take their toll on the minds and the health of a community’s individuals and families. My practice specializes in working with adults who want to begin to address these emotional, mental, and health-related challenges in order to develop more resilient, effective, and healthy lives. Specifically, I work with clients to help them manage anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship and family conflict, grief and loss, and chronic or unexpected health crises. My style emphasizes an active, strengths-based approach that engages clients to learn to better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the context of their relationships and within themselves. Whether I'm working with clients who have short term goals or longer term issues, in the process of our work together, we will seek to expand the necessary skills to cope with the challenges life presents and thus enhance and preserve the health of the individual's mind, body, and relationships. I earned my Bachelors degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from Union College in Schenectady, NY (1991). In 1998, I was awarded my PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Albany. I have completed a variety of continuing education programs in Mind/Body Medicine and I am currently pursuing additional specialized training in Primary Care Behavioral Health. This reflects my belief that good mental health is an essential component of overall health. In addition to working with clients, I also value being involved in my professional community; I am serving as a board member of the New Hampshire Psychological Association and am actively involved in efforts to improve public policy related to mental health in New Hampshire. |

Emily Weston, PMHNP-BC (Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified) I am new to Great Bay Mental Health Associates. I spent six months with the staff, observing and helping to treat clients with Diana Haile, APRN, and conducting a coping skills support group lead by Dr. Sandra Rose while completing clinical hours for completion of my graduate education. Getting to know the staff was a wonderful experience and I was thrilled to be asked to sign on as a practitioner when I finished my studies at UMass Lowell in May of 2010. While this is my first NP job, I have over six years of experience in nursing. I have most recently been working at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts on two inpatient adult psychiatric units. The experience and knowledge that I have gained there about treating mental illness has been invaluable. Before that, and concurrently for a short time, I had been employed at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. While working with chronically ill patients on the telemetry units, I realized that the need for mental health services and education exists in every facet of medicine. It refueled my passion to pursue my studies as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse. Treating clients with medical illnesses is certainly an interest of mine based on my experiences. I provide medication management for many psychiatric diagnoses as well as am open to providing therapy for select clients who prefer a goal-directed approach to therapy.
